Real estate is certainly worth looking into as an investment. It fluctuates just like the stock exchange or any other investment but tends to be more stable long term. Investing can take the form of buying and fixing to resell like so many of those 'reality TV' shows try to explain or it can be along the lines of buy and hold in the case of rentals.
Each form of investing has risks and challenges and you would do well to research thoroughly the area you want to dive into. There are many groups both online and off that contain members that do both rehabs and rentals. Join a local group and get involved with others and learn about the risks and rewards.
